What is a wedding celebrant and why should you consider one?

Recently got engaged and now in the full throes of wedding planning? Congratulations!! 🎉

As you’ll already know by now, when planning a wedding there are many things to consider. From venues to colour palettes, music choices to The Dress, there are lots of ways to make your wedding day reflect who you are as a couple.

Traditionally, wedding ceremonies follow a set script and the only aspect of the ceremony personalised to you is your choices of reading and your music. However, if you would like a bespoke wedding ceremony that is tailored to you and your fiancé that truly tells your love story, a wedding celebrant might be for you.

What is a wedding celebrant?

To put it simply, a wedding celebrant crafts and delivers a totally bespoke wedding ceremony.

On the big day, I’ll conduct your ceremony. From welcoming your guests, to delivering the script we’ve worked on together, to announcing you as the newly married couple, I’ll be there to make sure the whole ceremony flows perfectly.

Why should you consider a wedding celebrant?

✨ When it comes to venues, the world is your oyster

In my opinion, one of the very best things about having a celebrant-led wedding is the ability to have your ceremony wherever you choose. Whereas a registrar-led wedding must be held at a licensed venue for legal reasons, celebrants aren’t constrained by these laws and so you can say your vows wherever you want to. Whether it’s in your parents’ back garden, the beach or in a theatre, the world is literally your oyster. I’m also very happy to help you find your perfect venue – it would be my honour!

✨ In terms of rules, there are no rules

Think of a celebrant-led wedding like a clean slate on which you can do anything you choose. Whether you want a ceremony that combines different cultures or religions in an inclusive and respectful way, or whether you want to create a ceremony that forgets all traditions entirely, we can craft a ceremony that ticks all your boxes instead of someone else’s boxes.

✨ This time, it’s personal

Unlike a registrar who you will meet on the day of your wedding (and likely have forgotten their name by the time you’re officially wed), you’ll meet me many months before.

Over a glass of wine or a cuppa, I’ll ask you both lots and lots of questions to discover everything about your relationship. From where you met, to your engagement story, to the funny anecdotes that might not make it into the speeches later. You’ll also get full sign off on your script, so you know that there won’t be any unwelcome surprises on the day.

✨ Have a tendency to run late? No worries!

I have chosen to only ever deliver up to 10 weddings a year. This is because I want to be able to spend hours and hours (and hours) really getting stuck into who you are as a couple and writing you the perfect script. I also only ever book one wedding ceremony per day. So, if things are running a little bit behind schedule (as is often the case on wedding days!), you don’t need to fret ­­– you’ve got me for the whole day.
